School is starting back and football season is kicking off, so it is about this time I start itching to make some changes to my front porch and mantle. Here in South Carolina, however, it is still very hot in August and September. You cannot go out and put mums on your front porch and it is still too early to put out the “Give Thanks” signs.
So how do we bring the fall vibes without your neighbors questioning your sanity? In comes fall football home decor. It allows you to change up your look without going into full Thanksgiving mode.
Frequently Asked Questions about Early Fall Football Home Decor
When should I put out my early fall decorations?
The way I do my fall decorating is early fall and football in August and September, Halloween in October, and Thanksgiving in November. It gives me time to enjoy each of the seasons without getting tired of them before the holiday is over.
Is this going to cost a lot of money?
It definitely does not need to cost a significant amount of money. You can find each of these items on a budget. Most of the fall football home decor can be purchased online or in stores at a reasonable cost.
Check the dollar spot section at Target. Go to the dollar store and see what you can find. This is where starting early saves you money. Retail stores will start putting out their fall decor in the summer, so you can buy early and take advantage of some of the beginning of the season sales.
How much time does it take to put out fall football home decor?
This depends on how many decorations you want to put out. I will show you how to decorate your home for early fall and football in 3 simple steps.
These 3 simple steps can be finished in about 10 minutes, so it does not take a lot of time or money to get into the football spirit!
Fall Football Home Decor in 3 Easy Steps

Step 1: Change out front door wreath
Changing out your front door wreath is a quick win. You can swap it in less than a minute and it makes a huge difference in the look of your front porch.
For me, I switch to a fall wreath that has football ribbon to mark the start of football season.
I use this one until the beginning of October when I switch it out for Halloween.

I also have a Welcome sign on my front porch that I change out for every season and holiday. It comes with interchangeable icons you in place of the “O” in “HOME.” This is such a cute and easy way to add a little holiday flair. It also takes up no storage space because all you need to store are the holiday icons in a Ziploc bag. Amazon is not selling our exact one anymore, but you can find a similar one here.

Step 2: Put out an early fall football yard flag
If you do not have a small yard flag post, this is your time to get one. It is a simple way to change the outdoor look of your home.
Another bonus is the flags do not take up a bunch of space in storage, so you can easily have yard flags for every season and holiday.
We are University of South Carolina Gamecocks fans, so we put out a yard flag specific to SC Gamecocks. You can choose to support your favorite college or professional team, or you can put a more generic fall yard flag that talks about football season.

Step 3: Decorate your mantle with fall football home decor
The final step is to decorate your mantle with fall football home decor. We moved into our new house last year, and I was so excited to have an actual mantle to decorate for the first time.
If you do not have a true fireplace mantle, you can still do this with an electric fireplace mantle or even your TV stand. You could also decorate your kitchen island if you have extra space there. Wherever you want to put a pop of color and say it’s fall and football has started is just fine!
I love the look of greens and creams for fall home decor, so I use these colors for my early fall decorating. For me, I like to change out the garland and add a few simple decorations like pumpkins.
Add a cute rustic sign and you are all set!
You can absolutely choose to do more decorating inside if you wish. Some other easy decor swaps are hand towels and drink coasters.
Pin it for later!

However, if you want quick and easy on a budget, these 3 steps are all you need to change your home to fall football home decor.
